"Being the richest man in the cemetery doesn't matter to me ...
Going to bed at night saying we've done something wonderful...
that's what matters to me."
~ Steve Jobs, 1993
Greetings, my pretty Ponies!
As you have surely heard, the American computer entrepreneur Steve Jobs died on 5 October 2011 at the age of 56 from pancreatic cancer. Nowadays he is surely best known as the CEO of the company Apple Inc. which had huge commercial success with the iMac, iPod, iTunes, iPhone and iPad. However, he already played an important role in the computer industry since the 1970s, popularizing - although not inventing - now common devices like computer mice as an addition to keyboards or graphical user interfaces instead of command lines or text menus. He was also the CEO of the Pixar Animation Studio which released highly profitable and critically acclaimed productions as "Toy Story" or "Finding Nemo". Therefor, even if you do not own a Mac computer, Steve Jobs probably had a significant influence on your life
You can find plenty of biographies and commendations of him at this time, righteous praise and ridiculous romanticization, deserved criticism and undeserved hatred. Some paint him as a Saint, others as a Demon. Well, this Journal Entry is not about that. I intend to collect friendly art about Steve Jobs. Those who feel annoyed by the hype and who enjoy dark humor may check out the Memegenerator's category for him instead
In contrast to that you can read a nice, albeit a bit exaggerated tribute to him by spyed and techgnotic.
I made a collection folder for Steve that includes images which are not in this feature.
Tribute art for Steve Jobs has its own category on deviantArt.
You can also light an apple for him and leave a message.
Here is a collection of sourced quotes by him.
And here is the text of a commencement address he gave in Stanford in 2005 (video). I think his own words provide the best eulogy for him:
"No one wants to die. Even people who want to go to heaven don't want to die to get there. And yet death is the destination we all share. No one has ever escaped it. And that is as it should be, because Death is very likely the single best invention of Life. It is Life's change agent. It clears out the old to make way for the new. Right now the new is you, but someday not too long from now, you will gradually become the old and be cleared away. Sorry to be so dramatic, but it is quite true.
Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.
Commit to his memory. Bite into an apple. And enjoy the art.

Today, I got the results from the IQ test I took two weeks ago. And it turned out that I am the 1%! :#1: Unfortunately, not according to Occupy Wall Street standards - and I severely doubt that I will ever in my life earn $500,000 or more annually. But hey, at least I score well in regards to the statistical intelligence distribution. That is worth something too, right? :D
This result allows me to apply membership to the German subgroup of Mensa International, the largest and oldest high IQ society in the world. It accepts the top 2%, which may sound exclusive at first; howeve

Today, I feature the most lovely Lisa-Schneider (https://www.deviantart.com/lisa-schneider) :tighthug: As you may have read in my last Journal Entry, she died in a car accident two days ago :noes: Several deviants have already honored her memory by presenting her art, a kind tribute I will happily pay as well.
Her fate and work made me remember a wonderful video (4:17) I had not thought about in a while. Those who watch it listen to Richard Dawkins reading from his book "Unweaving the Rainbow", his gentle words being praised by the bea

It is time for me to publicly admit it: I am tardy! :noes: My inbox is filled with 1730 unanswered Messages. My newest photograph on deviantArt which I upload chronologically is from June 2006. I am late with several accomplishments for University, not to speak of having a decent job at my age. Which in turn would grant me the money to do and buy the things I have never missed until now. To be fair, my life is not a complete mess, since I have quite some talents and perspectives. But my past lack of aspiration and discipline make me
