General Information: The "Liebfrauenkirche" ("Church of Our Dear Lady") is the oldest Gothic church in Germany. Its predecessor from the 4th century had deteriorated over the centuries, so around 1230 the construction of the new church began at its place and ended thirty years later. It features several remarkable architectural and sculptural elements, of which the most distinctive one may be the fact that it is shaped like a rose. It is not that visible from the outside (aerial shot: [link] ), but the interior view [link] and especially the floor plan [link] show it very clearly. The church suffered heavy damage during World War II which is why many elements like the altar or the colorful window panes are of modern origin nowadays.

Trier is a city in the Federal Republic of Germany with a population of 100,000. It is located in the Western part of Germany only 15 km from the border of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and lies on the banks of the Moselle River. It claims to be the oldest recognized city in Germany, being founded by the Romans 2000 years ago. Besides its numerous buildings from the Roman and the frequency of archaeological discoveries, it is very famous as a wine-growing region.
