Greetings, my pretty Ponies!
On 13 May 2012, John de Lancie announced his plans for a BronyCon Documentary, motivated by the bizarrely negative reports on Bronies by mainstream media. John de Lancie! The actor who voiced Discord in the first two Episodes of Season 2 and the suspiciously similar character of Q in Star Trek Now he, Michael Brockhoff, Laurent Malaquais and Andrew Brockert have started a Kickstarter Campaign
I am in a bit of a hurry right now, but I will expand this Journal Entry later I just wanted to spread the word as quickly as possible
What Is This Documentary About?
In the words of John de Lancie himself:
"I've been on a lot of shows that had some interesting fans, but never so interesting as "My Little Pony". Some of those fans call themselves "Bronies", and I've been invited to the biggest Brony Convention in the world. It's at the Netherlands right outside of New York City at the end of June. This is a Documentary about the Fan Phenomenon called "Bronies", that's what this Kickstarter Campaign is all about. The BronyCon Documentary will follow me to New York where we will discover who Bronies are and what makes them so unique. Our Documentary is going to be respectful. Insightful. And very entertaining."
Laurent Malaquais adds:
Hi, I am Laurent Malaquais, the director of this Project. Some people don't understand Bronies, they make fun of them, they marginalize them, they just don't get it. I'm excited to make this documentary because I believe in the message of the show, and I believe that Bronies deserve a chance to show us who they really are and why they have chosen to become fans. I think there is no better way to get to know the Bronies than through the eyes of John de Lancie. Like the general public, he is new to this phenomenon, but he has been launched into the middle of their world. I'm excited to take this journey with John, but I'm also interested in discovering what fuels this love and appreciation for the show and how the Brony Community is an evolving culture. I hope you're as enthusiastic as I am because I really want to show you this journey to BronyCon. Thanks for supporting our Kickstarter Campaign.
What Is Kickstarter?
Kickstarter is a crowdfunding platform and without doubt one of the most amazing websites I have ever seen. The idea is that if a lot of people donate even small amounts of money, you can end up with huge sums. Which is a fantastic way to fund projects that do not (or do not want to) get backed up by traditional corporations. Kickstarter is specialized on creative projects like games, books, music, films or technological innovations; charity projects are not allowed.
In detail, it goes like this:
A Project Creator presents his project for free, chooses a target amount and a deadline until which the target must be met.
If that is accomplished, the project is funded. If not, the supporters (called "Pledgers") keep their money.
To motivate the Pledgers, there are various specified rewards. The bigger the donation, the better the reward.
In case of success, 5% of the money goes to Kickstarter and additional 3-5% to Amazon for the financial processing. Which brings us to the significant downside: Because of the special business model of Kickstarter, they can only use a payments service that involves a Credit Card. Not even PayPal will work
Are There Any Kickstarter Success Stories?
[...]
But remember: It lies within the responsibility of the Project Creator to use the donations responsibly and keep his promises, so choose wisely who you want to support. A clean reputation of the Project Creator, past successes and a convincing presentation are aspects you should pay attention to in order to identify promising, trustworthy projects. Which is totally the case with this one!
What Can I Do?
You can help in two ways: By donating and/or spreading the word For just 10$ you can get a "Thank you!" in the credits of the documentary. But more importantly, you can support a really great project and help to show what a vibrant and positive relationship there is between the Bronies and the Actors.
The target is $60,000 until 10 June 2012, which is in 26 days. We are guaranteed that this goal will be met: The Project is just about 18 hours old and 434 Backers have already donated $23,767! The Project Creators commented in a first update and "want to hear your suggestions about the topics you feel should be covered in the documentary." Hoofs up for listening to the community not only in the documentary, but even in advance! /) We can leave our smart thoughts at Bronydoc.blogspot.com
As you can see, I am pretty thrilled. I find it amazing how new technologies open up entirely new ways for the fans to interact with the people on the production side, and this is a fantastic example for it Also, John De Lancie is a pretty hilarious guy in Real Life as well, from what I have seen and read, so I have no doubt that this Documentary will become totally awesome
Your faithful Brony, Ray!

Updates
2012-05-25: Paypal users now have the chance to support the project as well! We can donate under bronydoc.com. Best of all: You get the same rewards as if you had donated via Kickstarter!
For European Bronies: The $10 offer amounts to €8.25, which will get you a "Thank you" in the credits. I paid $30 (= € 24.74) to additionally receive the code for a Digital Download
2012-06-13: The BronyCon Documentary raised its funding goal two day ago 2,621 backers pledged $322,022 over Kickstarter. Additionally, PayPal donators gave $26,142. That amounts to whooping $348,164! This also means that the Documentary will go international. They will attend the Galacon Convention in Stuttgart (Germany) on August 11th and 12th as well as the BUCK BronyUKCon in Manchester (England) on August 18th and 19th
In case you missed the deadline, here is good news for you: "The Paypal account at www.bronydoc.com will remain open for upgrades and new pledges. Announcements on when each level closes will be made on that page soon." For those interested, you still can buy tickets for the Galacon in Stuttgart. They are limited to 400 and cost €40 for the weekend. You can also book an overnight stay with breakfast, lunch and dinner for 35€. Additional bookings from Friday to Saturday and Sunday to Monday are possible for the same price. I am not sure if I will attend since I am tight on cash and time...but if there are still tickets available last minute, resistance is probably futile

Today, I got the results from the IQ test I took two weeks ago. And it turned out that I am the 1%! :#1: Unfortunately, not according to Occupy Wall Street standards - and I severely doubt that I will ever in my life earn $500,000 or more annually. But hey, at least I score well in regards to the statistical intelligence distribution. That is worth something too, right? :D
This result allows me to apply membership to the German subgroup of Mensa International, the largest and oldest high IQ society in the world. It accepts the top 2%, which may sound exclusive at first; howeve

Today, I feature the most lovely Lisa-Schneider (https://www.deviantart.com/lisa-schneider) :tighthug: As you may have read in my last Journal Entry, she died in a car accident two days ago :noes: Several deviants have already honored her memory by presenting her art, a kind tribute I will happily pay as well.
Her fate and work made me remember a wonderful video (4:17) I had not thought about in a while. Those who watch it listen to Richard Dawkins reading from his book "Unweaving the Rainbow", his gentle words being praised by the bea

It is time for me to publicly admit it: I am tardy! :noes: My inbox is filled with 1730 unanswered Messages. My newest photograph on deviantArt which I upload chronologically is from June 2006. I am late with several accomplishments for University, not to speak of having a decent job at my age. Which in turn would grant me the money to do and buy the things I have never missed until now. To be fair, my life is not a complete mess, since I have quite some talents and perspectives. But my past lack of aspiration and discipline make me
