General Information: The "Sankt Georgsbrunnen" ("Well of Saint George") is a beautiful well from the Rococo period. It was built around 1750 and is located on the "Kornmarkt" ("Corn Market") in the center of Trier. An aerial photograph can be seen on Bing Maps: [link] (click "Turn Right" and then "Turn Left" again). It has a height of 11 meters and depicts allegories of the four seasons around a pillar in the middle on which Saint George is killing a dragon.
Saint George is a hugely popular figure in Christian mythology who lived in the third century BC. The so-called Cross of Saint George especially gained fame during the Crusades and can be found in more than a dozen different Flags and Coats of Arms, most prominently the English flag.

Trier is a city in the Federal Republic of Germany with a population of 100,000. It is located in the Western part of Germany only 15 km from the border of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and lies on the banks of the Moselle River. It claims to be the oldest recognized city in Germany, being founded by the Romans 2000 years ago. Besides its numerous buildings from the Roman and the frequency of archaeological discoveries, it is very famous as a wine-growing region.
